Jaraba refuses to dismiss Sanz for sexual harassment cases

El País, 29/04/2010

The director general of Radio Television Valenciana (RTVV), José López Jaramillo, refuses to dismiss Vicente Sanz from his post as general secretary and number two public television after complaints of sexual harassment on Channel 9. Lopez Jaramillo, who acknowledged having heard of the case at least ten days before the three journalists from reporting suspected abuse Sanz and nevertheless took no action, is merely to accept the provisional cease at the request of the defendant.

In an urgent meeting of the board of RTVV held last night to discuss the issue, the directors appointed at the request of the opposition to call for action became general director of the agency. In fact, the chief of staff, John Preface, is provisionally assuming the post of secretary general, which includes the responsibilities of chief of staff on TV. Counselors remind again López Jaramillo who has the power to dismiss or reappoint any time and that failure to do so is a gesture of support for their behavior and contempt for journalists harassed. But the director of RTVV again refused to take a decision, so that at any moment Sanz could reclaim his post and return to become secretary general. A situation that some directors considered unthinkable.

also asked about whether an investigation had begun into the house to see who knew the situation and said nothing. And the answer was negative.

During the board approved only with the votes of the directors appointed by the popular one year deferred payment of 32 million euros falling due this year. RTVV living debt remains well on 1.099 million.

Other topics discussed were also unanswered. As the request of providing the institution of common bodies in other institutions such as an audiovisual council, a drafting committee and a supporter of the hearing. Also questioned Channel 9 for not issuing the Final Four party that won the Power Electronics. And he asked Lopez Jaramillo, unanswered, for the information to ensure that the tax office has issued up to 24 requests for debt with the IRS. This situation leads to the discredit of the institution.
